The Gonidec Boulangerie
When Bernard Gonidec became a baker, he represented the
third generation in his family to follow this tradition. He
started baking in 1981 in Plozévet, taking over from his
father (who began in 1939) and his grandmother (who started
in 1920).
The true strength of this business lies first and
foremost in the use of personal recipes, individual know-how
and top quality ingredients that are put together using
traditional methods. Another practical plus point is the
number of ‘Gonidec’ outlets throughout the local area, as
there are four Gonidec sites: Plozévet, Mahalon, Pont-Croix
and Gourlizon.
Bernard Gonidec adapts his daily specials according to
the time of year, for example the sweet brioche speciality known as ‘Kouign des Gras’ is available around February
and March.
Throughout the year, Gonidec outlets also offer
‘baguettes ŕ l’ancienne’ (old-fashioned baguettes, more
dense and intensely flavoured than modern alternatives), the
regional speciality ‘Kouign Amann’ (similar to a lardy cake
but lighter, sweeter and definitely buttery!) and the pure
levened bread (both white and dark varieties).
